Contract Modalities
What you should know when applying for an Individual Contract (IC) position
An Individual Contract is for short duration activities and may provide an advantageous entry point for future possibilities of longer term appointments in UNDP.
It is used to provide expert and/or advisory services, technical skills or knowledge for the performance of a specific task or piece of work for a limited period of time, as long as it is not in a staff replacement capacity or for work normally performed by staff members.
Individual Contracts are intended solely to accommodate short-term services, subject to availability of funds, for a period of time ranging from one day (1) to a maximum of twelve (12) months and do not carry any expectation of any future engagement in UNDP.
Individual contract holders are not staff members and thus are not entitled to the same benefits and entitlements as UNDP staff members.
Payment rates
The fees payable are based on the nature of the assignment, the complexity, difficulty and extent of the work to be performed and the degree of expertise required to accomplish it. Individual Contract holders are responsible for the payment of any taxes that may be due on the fees received from UNDP for their services.
Other entitlements
Payment of cost of air ticket, DSA and terminal expenses may be authorized, if the Individual Contract holder is required to travel beyond commuting distance, in one of the three following modalities:
- Organization assisted travel: UNDP handles all travel arrangements.
- Lump sum payment.
- Modified lump sum payment: UNDP handles the ticketing arrangements and lump sum is provided for DSA and terminal expenses.
There are no leave entitlements for Individual Contract holders.
