Career Development throughout your JPO Assignment
During your JPO assignment with UNDP, the organization, your manager / supervisor and mainly yourself will share the responsibility for your career. You will be responsible for managing your own career, while the organization will offer support, training and information related to your career development.
The JPO Service Centre will provide continuous support to your career development throughout your JPO assignment, following the indicative timeline below.
Beginning and during the first year of assignment
- Introduction letters in the offer package, as well as briefing on the importance of career management by the JPO Service Centre (JPOSC) on induction day, including learning policies and tools available to JPOs.
- Briefing by JPO Service Centre to supervisors of their responsibilities via best-practice letters.
- Online trainings.
- Briefing on the importance of career management at the PPO course (and by Human Resources Associate in individual counselling sessions).
- Agreement upon the RCA learning/development plans with supervisor. RCA discussions will also include career aspirations.
- Participation in the e-Mentoring Programme (only UNDP and affiliated funds and programmes' JPOs).
After completion of the first year
- Briefing on career development by JPO Service Centre at Regional JPO Workshops.
- JPO’s familiarization with the organization’s job opportunities, through UNDP jobs website and other relevant websites, to take an organizational scan of what the future looks like in terms of job opportunities and what will be possible to apply for.
- Career discussions between the JPO and the JPO Service Centre to keep the focus and momentum up, to remain focused and persevere in career management efforts.
- New and relevant learning initiatives by LRC sent out via email to all UNDP staff members (including JPOs) to continue developing skills and learning for greater competitiveness within the UN System.
Final 8-6 months of assignment
- Career coaching sessions, career counselling sessions and mock interviews with the JPOSC, by phone, Skype or in person if possible, available to UNDP and affiliated funds and programmes’ JPOs.
- Life web-conference on career management, conducted 2-3 times per year by the JPOSC, available to UNDP and affiliated funds and programmes’ JPOs.
