Planning for your learning

Through the Learning Management System, UNDP provides universal access for all UNDP staff to learning opportunities related to the competencies required for the successful delivery of UNDP's expected results. Managers and staff should budget adequate time and resources for proactive learning and formal training to acquire the skills and capacity needed for their UNDP work and careers.

Results Competency Assessment and Learning Plans

The Results and Competency Assessment (RCA) is UNDP's main performance, planning, assessment and management tool for "results and competencies", including learning. The annual RCA cycle runs from the 1st of February of the current year to the 31st of January of the following year.

The RCA provides a platform for  staff members and supervisors to engage in structured, inclusive and interactive dialogue and discussion to plan for results to be achieved, review progress and plan for learning and competency development, as well as to evaluate the overall performance during the year. The RCA stages are as follows:

  • Annual planning for development and results;

  • Mid-term review;

  • Year-end discussion and assessment.

The RCA is an important tool for your career planning and learning. It allows you the opportunity to discuss with your supervisor skills and knowledge development needs, as well as career opportunities.

As part of the RCA, you will prepare your individual learning plan and you will share the responsibility with your supervisor for identifying ways to integrate learning into your work.

To prepare and implement your learning plan, you should explore learning opportunities offered by the Learning Resource Centre, Regional Bureaux/Centres, BDP/SURFs, and/or JPO Service Centre.

You may find more information about UNDP's learning strategy, as well as learning opportunities offered by UNDP on the web-site of the Learning Resources Centre.
