The Fourth Regional JPO Workshop (hosted by the Egypt Country Office)
took place in Cairo, 17 - 21 November 2003. 35 JPOs, working for UNCDF,
UNDP, UNFPA, UNIFEM and UNOPS, and Her Royal Highness the Crown Princess
Victoria of Sweden participated to the sessions. 10 resource persons facilitated
the sessions and made various presentations (available online).
The "Millenium Development Goals" is the theme
for the workshop. The MDGs represent a global vision as well as a well-defined
set of goals for reducing poverty and improving lives. They cut across
UN Agencies, sectors and geographical areas. MDGs can be considered as
a tool for development itself. They not only represent a framework where
comprehensive national strategies can be embedded and evaluated at a later
stage, they also represent a useful tool for UNDP and other UN Agencies
in their work.
The objective of the workshop was to increase the participants' knowledge
of the MDGs and to provide them with an opportunity to link their day-to-day
work with the overall visions, policies and strategies of the UN Organisations.
The workshop mainly focused on three areas linked to the MDGs:
- MDGs as a Policy Tool
- MDGs as a Tool for Advocady
- MDGs as a Monitoring and Evaluation Tool
