11th JPO Workshop - Maputo, 10-15 May 2009UN Coordination| Objectives | Agenda | Participants | Reading Material | Evaluation |The workshop was organized by the JPO Service Centre in cooperation with the United Nations Development Operations Coordination Office (UNDOCO), with the support of the UN Resident Coordinator's Office in Mozambique. Based on a survey conducted on the JPO-Net, UN Coordination was selected as the theme of the 11th regional JPO workshop. "In an ever more interdependent world, a coherent and strong United Nations is needed to meet an immense set of global challenges and a wide diversity of needs. It should respond to the diverse needs of countries and perform as one at the country level, and have the governance, management and funding practices in place to support those efforts.", Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. The Secretary-General has highlighted the need for the UN development system to "deliver as one" integrated entity, in order to respond to the 2007 Triennial Comprehensive Policy Review (TCPR) recommendation for a UN system more coherent, effective and efficient. To accomplish this, system-wide coherence throughout the processes of management and policy development is essential. The UN system must also work together more effectively to support national efforts to achieve the internationally agreed development goals, including the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Supporting UN reform is an important corporate priority for UNDP, and JPOs assigned to UNDP country offices as well as Headquarters locations contribute directly to enhancing coordination of UN development activities in their respective duty stations.
