UNDP JPO e-Mentoring Programme

It is very simple to sign up to become a mentor in the UNDP JPO Induction Mentoring Programme. All you need to do is to fill in a User Profile on the e-Mentoring platform. It only takes a few minutes, since most of your personal information is automatically uploaded from Atlas.

If you are interested in joining the pilot phase of the Programme, we would kindly request you to complete your user profile by 15 December. We will organize a web-based information and learning session for all mentors in mid-January and will also share a guidance note with you to assist you in your role as a mentor.

What is the JPO Induction Mentoring Programme?

As explained in the introduction, the objective of the JPO Induction Mentoring Programme is to support new JPOs assigned to UNDP in taking up their assignment. The Programme will match new JPOs with experienced JPOs in their second or third year of the JPO assignment, Special Assistants to the UN Resident Coordinator (SARCs), or current UNDP staff members who were recently JPOs.

It is the intention that experienced current JPOs, SARCs, or former JPOs will mentor new JPOs during the first six months of their assignment on issues which the new JPO may be facing in the beginning of the assignment. These issues could be related to taking up a JPO assignment, integrating into the new duty station, establishing an effective working relationship with the supervisor and other colleagues in the duty station, taking ownership of his/her induction and learning plan, etc.

It is the intention that the e-Mentoring platform will be used also for other mentoring programmes to be launched in UNDP (JPO career development mentoring programme, LEAD mentoring programme etc.).

Piloting the platform

The pilot phase of the JPO Induction Mentoring Programme will last six months, starting in early January 2010 and ending in June 2010.

Once the e-Mentoring platform has been populated with names of mentors, and the above web-based information and learning session has been completed, we will invite new JPOs (appointed after 1 November 2009) to sign up as mentees.

Please do not hesitate to contact any of the members of the team: Barbara Koegs Andersen, Maria Segovia, Ane Katrine Havsteen, Thomas Gilmartin and Lykke Andersen if you have any questions, suggestions or concerns.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support, and we look forward to working with you on strengthening the JPO Induction support through the JPO Induction Mentoring Programme and further sharpening of the e-Mentoring platform.
