Benefits and Entitlements - Assignment

"What is the difference between the JPOs benefits and the regular professional staff ones ?"

  • The JPOs benefits are almost identical to those any staff member recruited under 200 series (P staff) is entitled to. The only exceptions are the following:

    • JPOs entitlements are 40% lower than the ones regarding a regular 200 series staff member when it comes to the relocation grant and shipment on appointment and repatriation;
    • JPOs are not entitled to travel in business class;
    • JPOs do not get a refund on a private vehicle shipment fees;
    • JPOs are automatically enrolled in the global life insurance plan and its cost is covered by the donor;
    • JPOs are entitled to a duty travel and training-related allowance whose total amount is determined by the donor.

"What is the assignment grant?"

  • Assignment grant is provided to JPOs at the beginning of their assignment or when they are reassigned. Its aim is to provide staff members with a reasonable cash amount for covering pre-departure expenses and settling expenses.

  • In cases where the staff member has not completed the period of service in respect of which the assignment grant has been paid, the grant shall be adjusted proportionately and recovery made under conditions established by the Secretary-General who, in exceptional circumstances, may decide to waive recovery.

"How is the assignment grant calculated?"

  • The assignment is comprised of two portions:
    • Daily Subsistance Allowance (DSA) portion
      (DSA x 30 days for the JPO) + (50% of DSA x 30 days for each dependant)

    • Lump-sum portion:
      one month of net remuneration. If an assignment of less than 3 years' duration is subsequently extended to 3 years or more, a second 1-month lump-sum is payable at the beginning of the third year.
