The Mentoring Programme for JPOs


The idea with this new type of service to the JPOs is to strengthen the learning aspect of the JPO Programme and to optimize the use of existing resources within the Organization in the form of experienced staff. Whereas the Mentor Programme will provide JPO with an opportunity to draw on the experience, the expertise and the detached spectator's view of a senior colleague, it will provide the mentor with an interesting and enriching opportunity to share knowledge, coach and touch base with a young professional within the Organisation. As the mentor role is intended to supplement the daily supervisor's role, one of the main ideas is that mentor should come from a different duty station than that of the mentee. A substantial number of volunteers have already expressed interest in becoming mentors and are ready to devote part of their time to advising and coaching a younger colleague. Several of them are former JPOs themselves.
