Using the UNDP's Learning Manager Network

The UNDP change programme recognizes the increasing importance of organizational and individual learning for organizational success and survival. The change process underlined UNDP's intention to become a learning organization. It also called on all staff and managers to invest a minimum of 5 per cent work time in learning.

In response to these recommendations, the Office of Human Resources, through its Learning Resources Centre (LRC), prepared a comprehensive document known as the "Learning Framework" (UNDP/ADM/98/60), which can guide the organization's efforts to support individual learning for staff development. A key element in the operationalization of the framework is the establishment of a Learning Manager Network.

Learning Manager focal points are present in more than 110 UNDP Country Offices. A detailed list of all the current Learning Managers is available on-line. Their role in their Country Office is to:

  • serve as an authority on self-directed learning;
  • be an advocate for individual learning and promote learning resources externally and internally available;
  • support the preparation of the learning plans included in the Results and Competencies Assessment (RCA);
  • assist staff members in identifying and selecting the appropriate resources and tools for the Office learning.
  • network closely with other Learning Managers worldwide and the UNDP Learning Resource Centre to share and discuss ideas and learning practices.

JPOs are strongly encouraged to discuss with their Country Office Learning Manager the various training options available in-country or in the region, as well as the possibilities of attending relevant seminars and workshops or any other activity that could be of interest.
