Mission of the Association
The JPO Alumni Association promotes a lifelong connection to the United Nations' activities and the Organisation's ethical standards. More specifically, it aims at:
- Making use of the talents and resources of former JPOs to advocate the United Nations values;
- Fostering a community spirit and knowledge sharing among former JPOs;
- Facilitating job search for former JPOs.
Who are we?
Launched in September 2003, the JPO Alumni Association (JAA) groups as of today 1128 members and is growing steadily.
Membership of the Association is open to all former JPOs/APOs/YPOs/AEs of the UN System.
Registration
Are you a former JPO? Please send your registration request to the
JAA Co-ordinator, who will provide you with username and password to access all JAA sections.
Keeping in touch
In order to facilitate networking and a sense of community, the following directories are made available:
- the JAA-Net is intended to strengthen knowledge-sharing and cross-fertilisation activities among the members of the JPO Alumni Association;
- the JAA directory:
- is only accessible to the Alumni members;
- groups numerous contact details and work-related information on the Alumni members;
- offers a powerful search engine;
- allows online personal information update;
- only those fields which are chosen by the members can be seen by others;
- the Directory of former JPOs who participated in the Programme since its creation in the mid-sixties. (Please note that no private information such as e-mail addresses or telephone numbers will be provided by the JPO Service Centre without the express consent of the person concerned);
- the Directory of former JPOs / current UN staff that can be sorted by nationality, grade, current agency,
current duty station and current title. Business e-mail addresses are also provided.
- launched in September 2007, the UN JPOs Facebook group is an additional platform aimed at strengthening the networking opportunities and at fostering a community spirit among current and former JPOs. It is meant to enable its members, over 375, to communicate among each other on an informal basis.
Other JAA Services
The following services are also available to the members of the JPO Alumni Association:
- the Post-JPO employment opportunities section offers selected employment links;
- the JPO CV / Talent Management Roster allows former JPOs to store their CV in a database that is advertised by the JPO Service Centre to various potential employers;
- the Regional workshops provide an opportunity to bring together JPOs working in the same region and/or on similar projects. Alumni members are also invited to participate and will receive information on the forthcoming events;
- the JPO stories section will gather short interviews/portraits of current or former JPOs;
- the Travel advice section offers useful links for travellers.
What's next?
At this stage, the JPO Alumni Association represents a simple entity administered by the JPO Service Centre, without any membership fees and offering some web-based services reflected above.
