December 2003:

  • The results of the 2003 client surveys are now available!
  • The dates for the JPO Programme Policy and Operations Induction Course held at Headquarters, New York, have been set for 2004. The courses will take place on the following dates:

      23 February to 10 March (with UNICEF)
      3 to 19 May (with UNOPS)
      19 July to 4 August
      1 to 17 November
  • On the 13th and 14th of November, the JPO Service Centre received the visit of Her Royal Highness the Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden.
    The Crown princess was introduced to the JPO Programme and met with each staff member of the JPOSC who presented their activities and missions. This presentation was made in preparation of the JPO Workshop held in Cairo which the Crown princess attended.

    August 2003:

    • view of Cairo The next Regional JPO workshop is scheduled to take place in Cairo, Egypt between 17 and 21 November 2003. The main theme will be the Millennium Development Goals. A detailed agenda will follow in due course. At the last workshop in Antigua, Guatemala we experimented by having participants from "other" UN agencies, such as WFP and UNICEF. The feedback was very positive, so if you feel that some of your JPO colleagues working for other agencies might be interested in attending, please do let them know.
    • We have recently signed Memoranda of Understanding with the Government of the Republic of Korea and with the Agence Intergouvernmentale de la Francophonie. Later on in 2003, these new donors will allocate to UNDP 2 and 3 JPOs respectively. All JPOs funded by la Francophonie come from the South. We will also start administering very shortly a JPO working in Cambodia with the Mekong River Commission. This will be our first non-UN client.
    • The new LEAD participants have started their assignments some two weeks ago. Among 8 LEADers from the North, 5 are current or recent JPOs. To know more, please view our Stats section.

    • A new online JPO recruitment system for nationals from Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and candidates from Developping Countries is now operational.
    • 4 positions funded by the Netherlands are currently open. The deadline for application is 8 July 2003.
    • The JPO CV / Talent Management Roster is a new service intended for JPOs who are coming to the end of their assignment and would like to store their CV in a database that will be advertised by the JPO Service Centre to potential employers and interested parties (government and UN agencies, recruiting and private companies, bilateral assistance programmes, NGOs). More news on this new service will be disseminated in the near future.

      Between 16 and 21 March 2003, Poul Grosen, Director of the UNDP Nordic Office, Vitaly Vanshelboim, Chief of the JPO Service Centre, and Barbara Kœgs-Andersen, Human Resource Associate, visited the following Country Offices: Thailand, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.

      The objectives of the trip were: meeting the 22 JPOs and Special Assistant to the UNRC based in these countries, discussing JPO administrative changes with CO management, meeting the national authorities and raising awareness of the role and importance of the JPO Programme in the fight against poverty.
