Who can apply online?

The online JPO Application system is currently available for nationals from Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia if there are any current openings. Applicants from other countries are requested to write directly to their respective government's authorities. Certain developing country nationals can also apply online for a limited number of posts. Applications will be kept on a roster during twelve months. Past that period, candidates that have not been selected are welcome to re-submit a new application.

Qualifications and requirements for a JPO

Only candidates in whom the organisation has further interest will be contacted and only successful candidates will be notified.

Candidates for the JPO Programme are selected on a highly competitive basis. The qualifications below are the minimum required in order to be considered:

Academic qualifications: Master's degree (or equivalent) in a development-related discipline, except for posts sponsored by The Netherlands who will accept Bachelor's degree.
   
Language skills: written and spoken proficiency in at least two of the three working languages used by UNDP: English, French    and Spanish. Fluency in Arabic, Russian or Chinese is an asset.
   
Excellent information technology skills, including word-processing, database applications, presentation software and Internet.
   
A minimum of one to two years of working experience in a developing country is highly desirable.
   
Evidence of ability to think strategically; to express ideas clearly; to work independently and in teams; to demonstrate a sense of  self-assuredness combined with cultural and gender sensitivity.
   
A strong commitment to development; an interest in adapting to varied physical and professional environments; and a desire to
  work with people with different language, national and cultural backgrounds.
   
Respect for the principles of the United Nations Charter and the participating UN agencies Mission Statements.
